School Climate and Culture

  • Within challenging learning environments, arts-based intervention strategies promote a sense of community, foster positive school culture, and may play a key role in larger school reform initiatives (Stevenson & Deasy, 2005).

  • Students in arts integrated schools develop improved attitudes towards school and learning and have fewer disciplinary problems (Barry, 2010).

  • Arts integration encourages dynamic instructional practices that promote deeper learning, while at the same time rejuvenating teachers at risk of leaving the teaching profession (Bellisario & Donovan, 2012).
